FAME Programming

Beyond the financial assistance provided to students, FAME offers additional support to the community and to FAME’s Scholars and alumni:

ACADEMIC ENRICHMENT WORKSHOPS
compliment the independent school experience by exposing students to additional math, science or English content using an engaging and interactive format.

ALUMNI ASSOCIATION
membership is automatically awarded to each graduate of the FAME Scholars program providing opportunities to give back to FAME and to establish career and personal connections.

ANNUAL CELEBRATION
is a celebration of the accomplishments of FAME Scholars, FAME Academy students, and alumni and is an opportunity to acknowledge the support of FAME partners and contributors.

COLLEGE TOURS
give students a glimpse of the myriad of college choices available to them and help them to focus their college search.

FAME ACADEMY
provides qualified middle school students with a rigorous 3 year college preparatory program to prepare them for admission at participating independent high schools.

FAMILY ACTIVITIES
including a Fall Gathering and Family BBQ, are designed to provide African American families attending area independent schools the opportunity to come together, share experiences and become better acquainted.

INFORMATION FAIRS
inform the community of the benefits of an independent school education and the potential financial assistance available.

INTERNSHIP PROGRAM
places college level alumni and high school students in challenging internships within corporations in the Pittsburgh area.

LEADERSHIFT TRIPS
enhance leadership skills by emphasizing the importance of civic responsibility, cultural history, service learning, and educational aspirations.

LEADERSHIP SYMPOSIUMS
provide corporate exposure that enhances students’ leadership skills and broadens their career and personal awareness.

PARENT PLANNING COMMITTEE
plans events designed to inform parents on FAME program topics.

SAT and ACT PREPARATION COURSE
enhances college admissibility and increases students’ college options and scholarship eligibility.

STEM
program offers a membership to NSBE Jr., 5 different STEM Teams (Mathcounts, Try Math-A-Lon, Vex Robotics, First Lego Robotics, and Ten80 Race Cars).

STUDENT PLANNING COMMITTEE
provides Scholars with the opportunity to identify, plan and lead initiatives of their interest affording students real world project management experience.

TRANSITION WORKSHOPS
help students adjust to their new educational environment both academically and socially.

TUTORIAL PROGRAM
helps students who require the additional academic support of a tutor.
